I’m a California-based painter and recent UCSB Art graduate. I photograph the life around me, follow ideas wherever they lead, and make work about family, memory, unseen labor, and the structures that hold us together.
I like the difficult painting.
I am drawn to ambitious scale, complicated figures, and subjects I have not quite learned how to paint yet. That reach can be maddening. It is also the engine of the work.
My practice moves between observation and invention. Family photographs, lived experience, landscape, and ordinary objects become the raw material for paintings that ask how we carry our histories—and how we keep becoming.
What guides the work
Look closely.
Specificity is where character lives.
Risk the mess.
The interesting painting is rarely the safest one.
Make it human.
Technique matters. Feeling is the reason.
